Bombers Joined by New Opponent from Alexandria

By: Ben Krauss

Just weeks after the Texas Collegiate League formed its 2010 schedule, the league got a welcome surprise as the Alexandria Aces became the second team to join for the upcoming season.

“We couldn’t be happier that the Aces are joining the TCL,” said league president Uri Geva. “Alexandria is excellent market and the Aces bring a great reputation, making the franchise a strong addition to the Texas Collegiate League.”

“We are excited to be a part of the TCL,” said Eric Moran, president of the Aces. “Our fans will get to enjoy a new, vibrant brand of baseball in the fun and familiar confines of Bringhurst Field. “We’re looking forward to this new chapter in Aces history,” added Moran.

Unlike the previous four teams who have joined the TCL as expansion franchises, the Aces have become a well-established organization in Alexandria. The original Aces squad began play in 1934, a year after Bringhurst Field was built.

The modern Aces began play in 1994, as the organization fielded teams in several different independent professional leagues.

The Aces instantly made history in the Texas Collegiate League, as they are the first TCL team based outside of Texas.

The TCL has quickly established itself as one of the most respected summer collegiate leagues in the nation. Attracting top college players from across the country, the TCL has seen more than 230 alumni drafted by major league teams in just six years.

The Brazos Valley Bombers are a summer collegiate baseball team located in Bryan, Texas. Founded in 2007, the team plays in the six-team Texas Collegiate League, which plays a 56-game schedule from early June to mid-August. As a summer collegiate team, the Bombers attract some of the top college baseball players from around the country as they prepare to embark their professional careers. Like minor league teams throughout the country, the Bombers offer affordable, family-friendly entertainment for fans of all ages.
