Rougarou Score 4 in the 8th, Beating the Visiting Bombers 7-2

Baton Rouge, Louisiana (June 28, 2022)- After sweeping a three-game home series against the Rougarou, the TCL-leading Bombers (15-5) traveled to Baton Rouge to face the last place Rougarou (5-16) for another two games. Heading into tonight’s game, the Bombers were 5-0 against the Rougarou in 2022 but the Rougarou take a 7-2 victory over the Bombers to snap their five-game losing streak.

After offensive outbursts from both teams in the 1st and 2nd, runs were hard to come by for either side. The Bombers were able to score two in the 2nd but left twelve runners stranded throughout the game, at least one in each inning.

Mike Adair (1-4), Riley Bender (3-4) and, Brayden Evans (2-4) were the only Brazos Valley batters to record a hit. Evans was also the sole contributor to both of the Bomber runs.

The Rougarou, wanting to bounce back from their shaky performance in their past three games at Edible Field, was first on the scoreboard, scoring two in the bottom of the 1st. After a pair of walks and a fielding error by Bombers’ 3rd baseman Riley Bender to load the bases for Baton Rouge, the Rougarou score one off a fielder’s choice to bring home Cameron Yadon from 3rd, and an RBI single by JT Taylor made it a two-run ballgame after one.

The Bombers’ nine-hole hitter, Brayden Evans tied up the game quickly in the 2nd with a two-run RBI single to Brandon Bishop and Robert Antonetti who reached base off a walk and hit-by-pitch.

The Bombers saw three pitchers take the mound for them in this low-scoring affair, tallying up nine total strikeouts and 11 hits allowed. Austin Teel started the ballgame for the Brazos Valley, allowing two runs off three hits and three walks but rang up four Baton Rouge batters.

Colton Taylor relieved Teel in the 4th inning and gave the Bombers a solid four innings before Jack Hamilton came in to close the game in the 7th. Taylor ended his night with a similar stat line as Teel, finishing with four Ks himself with three hits and the go-ahead run allowed in the 5th. Taylor also takes the loss for the ballgame due to the allowed run in the 5th.

The defensive wheels fell off for the Bombers in the eighth and the Rougarou tacked on an additional four runs to give themselves an insurmountable five-run lead going into the 9th. Five of the 11 Rougarou hits came off Hamilton during their 8th inning attack.
