Bombers Complete Largest Comeback Win of the Season, Topping the River Monsters 8-5

Bryan-College Station, Texas (July 1, 2022)- The 1st place (16-7) Brazos Valley Bombers hosted the bottom of the table (7-16) Seguin River Monsters for Fireworks Friday Night at Edible Field and the 2nd night in a row before both get a break from playing, marking the halfway point of the TCL 2022 season. After falling behind by five, the Bombers mounted their largest comeback of the season, earning a 8-5 victory over the River Monsters

The Bombers looked all but out of it through the first 5.5 innings, giving up four runs in the top of the 6th and falling behind to the River Monsters 5-0. However, right before the fireworks break at the bottom of the 6th, the Bombers’ offense EXPLODED on the field, batting through the lineup and tying up the game 5-5!

River Monster starting pitcher, Evans Hendricks, started the bottom of the 6th by walking the first two Bomber batters, leadoff batter Garrison Weiss and center fielder Kyle Atkinson, before getting pulled for Trace Sanchez in an effort to halt the Bombers promising attack.

The mid-inning River Monster pitching change didn’t affect the Bomber bats at all, as Mike Adair hit a first pitch RBI single off a bunt to score Weiss. Riley Bender kept the good times rolling with a similar RBI bunt single of his own to bring home another Bombers’ run.

5-hole batter Shelby Becker kept his foot on the gas with a single to load the bases. The next batter, Cole Kracmer, hit into a fielder’s choice to score the Bombers’ 3rd run of the inning and land himself on base.

The River Monsters walked in another Bombers run to chip the lead down to one, all without recording an out in the 6th. Bomber newcomer, JC Barry, hits into a double play but brings home the tying run to even the score at 5-5 heading into the fireworks show!

The Bombers put a bow on the ballgame in the 8th, loading the bases and scoring two off a JC Barry double to shallow right field and a throwing error by Seguin. Barry, in his 2nd game for the Bombers, had the best performance of the night, finishing 2-4 from the plate and responsible for three of the scored runs. Kracmer scored an unearned run to make it a three-run ball.

Similar to last night, the Bombers saw another group of pitchers handle the work throughout the game. Hunter Mayo started on the mound, recording a game-high six strikeouts and allowing one run off one hit in his three innings of work. Ross Fowler, Dalton Leblanc, and Carter Poulson all took the mound during the game.

The Bombers are excited to be going into the TCL all-star break off their biggest comeback win of the season, beating the River Monsters 8-5. The Bombers next game is scheduled for Tuesday, July 5th against the Victoria Generals. The team returns to Edible Field Wednesday July 6th to play the Baton Rouge Rougarou.
