Chase Kemp is the Backwall Bombers Position Player of the Week!
Kemp has been an installment in the starting lineup so far this season, and he started four of the Bombers five games between June 7 and June 13, including a three-game stretch at first base for the Bombers. Kemp also made a start as the designated hitter for the Navy & Gold.
On June 7 against the Acadiana Cane Cutters, Kemp recorded an RBI single that drove in Kyle Bergeron to establish the foundation of what would turn out to be a dominant offensive performance by the Bombers.
Five innings later, Kemp boomed a home run over the right-field wall at Travis Field to give the Bombers a 7-3 lead that would stick through the end of the contest.
The Bombers took on the Baton Rougarou next, and Kemp refused to let a new opponent faze him. With the bases loaded, Kemp drilled one down the right-field line for a double to put the Bombers on the board for the first time in the matchup.
Kemp doubled again in the following game against Baton Rouge and was able to get across the plate himself thanks to a slippery single from Bryant Shellenbarger.
Kemp appeared in the starting lineup on the road against the Texarkana Twins on June 13 as a designated hitter. Kemp kept the double streak alive with a powerful shot to right-center in extra innings.
Kemp has also been a leader in the infield for the Bombers with his outstanding play at first base. The Lamar University product’s reach, power and confidence under pressure have been cornerstones for a Bombers team that has outscored and out-played opponents 99-51 through the first 15 games of the season.
"He is the epitome of a team guy," says General Manager Brian Nelson. "He's quiet, he's humble, he works his butt off. He plays a great defensive first base, and he's an easy one to pencil into the lineup every day because we know we're going to get the maximum effort out of that guy. He's a threat in the lineup always. He's got the ability to put the ball out of the ballpark. He works hard, and I can't say enough about him."
